Block Control 1.6.0 released

With version 1.6.0, Block Control gained some needed love to be fully compatible with the latest WordPress versions and also a new feature for feeds – they’re not dead.
This new version not only adds full compatibility with WordPress 7.0, it also allows to hide content in feeds (which usually is especially handy for blog posts). The idea for this came from Torsten Landsiedel, who wrote about it last October on his German blog. Now, you can get the functionality for all of your blocks via a handy setting.
Block Control for legal content
If you don’t use Block Control yet, let me describe an actual usage example: On June 19, 2026, a new German law requires to have a so called “withdrawal button” to make withdrawing an order as simple as the order process itself. Until then, only a withdrawal form is a valid option.
So in this case, I can add the necessary content on my withdraw from contract page and just switch the content from the current error notice to the actual withdrawal button functionality on this specific date. There will also a button on the footer to this page – which is also hidden via Block Control until then.
Another example is the link to the online dispute resolution (ODR) of the European Union. This link is no more valid, since the platform it linked to has been shutdown. However, earlier laws made it required to any eCommerce business owner to link to it. This law has been changed so that you don’t have to link it anymore since July 20, 2025. If you still do, it may be a violation for its own as it could suggest that this platform is being used.
So, when it was clear that the link should be removed on July 20, 2025 – said regulation has been passed on December 19, 2024 – you could just set the hide date of the block with this link to July 20, 2025 at 00:00 and you were done.
That’s it
That were the biggest changes for Block Control 1.6.0. For all changes, please visit the changelog.
